Non-human transgenic animal having incorporated into its genome a transgene comprising a reporter gene linked to regulatory sequences of cytidine-cytidine-adenosine-adenosine-thymidine (CCAAT)/enhancer-binding protein (EBP)-activating transcription factor (ATF) responsive element (CARE) and a ubiquitous promoter, is new. An independent claim is included for screening substances capable of acting on the signaling pathway eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF)2alpha /ATF4, comprising inducing an environmental stimulus in the transgenic animal, measuring the level of expression of the reporter gene under the control of the sequence CARE included in the transgene, administering a substance to the animal, measuring the level of expression of the reporter gene under the control of the sequence CARE included in the transgene after administration of the substance, where the substance is a substance of interest if it is on the transgenic animal by restoring in the animal an expression similar to the expression of the reporter gene in the same transgenic animal not subjected to the stimulus, or by increasing the expression of the reporter gene in the transgenic animal subjected to the stimulus.
