The method involves providing the fuel cell powertrain (1) with a fuel cell (2), an electrical energy storage device (3) and an electric drive (4). The functions of the fuel cell, the electrical energy store and the electric traction drive are controlled by a control unit (6). The driver is haptically informed of maximum deliverable drive performance of fuel cell drive train. The pedal reaction force is controlled in dependence of the maximum deliverable drive performance of fuel cell drive train.
