Reducing floating sludge in a sewage plant, comprises reducing the nitrogen content of a water-activated sludge mixture using oxygen or oxygen-enriched air. The water-activated sludge mixture is conducted through a nitrogen-contactor (3) before introducing into a final settling tank (2) and is directed in at least one membrane (4) for specific degassing of the water-activated sludge mixture, which is charged on other side with oxygen. An independent claim is also included for a device for reducing the floating sludge in a sewage plant, comprising at least one nitrogen-contactor present between an activated sludge tank (1) and the final settling tank in the sewage plant, where the nitrogen-contactor exhibits at least two chambers (5) that are separated from each other by a membrane for the specific degassing of the water-sludge mixture.
