PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-excited reactive power compensation apparatus comprising a plurality of single phase power converters cascaded on an AC side, and a capacitor voltage control method therefor that can stably control DC voltage values of capacitors connected to a DC side of the single phase power converters, respectively.;SOLUTION: The self-excited reactive power compensation apparatus 1 comprises an arithmetic means 11 for calculating a DC voltage average of all the capacitors disposed on the DC side of the single phase power converters, a first DC capacitor voltage control means 12 for generating a first switching command value for matching the DC voltage average to a command value, and second DC capacitor voltage control means 13-1 to 13-3 each for generating a second switching command value for matching the respective DC voltage value to the DC voltage average.
