PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measurement method of backward Brillouin scattering light frequency spectrum distribution of an optical fiber which can narrow a necessary frequency bandwidth for measuring the backward Brillouin scattering light from the optical fiber to be measured, and can narrow a frequency bandwidth of a light receiving/processing system. PSOLUTION: One of test light from a light source 1 divided into two is incident to the optical fiber 3 to be measured after pulse modulation, and the other is incident to a reference optical fiber 9. The backward Brillouin scattering light from the reference optical fiber 9 and the backward Brillouin scattering light from the optical fiber 3 to be measured are multiplexed and a beat signal is detected. Depending on a detected time, a position of the backward Brillouin scattering light scattered in the optical fiber 3 to be measured is specified, and backward Brillouin scattering light frequency spectrum distribution is measured.
