PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve highly accurate characteristic measurement even when an inexpensive and simple device exists thereby by achieving a narrow band of light receiving band width of backward Brillouin scattering light.;SOLUTION: A method for measuring the backward Brillouin scattering light seals a reference optical fiber 9 with a container 11 when measuring torsion and temperature distribution of the backward Brillouin scattering light in an optical fiber 3 to be measured by synthesizing backward Brillouin scattering light from the reference optical fiber 9 and backward Brillouin scattering light from the optical fiber 3 to be measured to detect and process a beat signal, calculates a Brillouin frequency shift variation amount of the reference optical fiber 9 from temperature measurement result due to a thermometer 12 in the container 11, and obtains an accurate measured value by correcting the Brillouin frequency shift variation amount of the optical fiber 3 to be measured.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
