Ultrasonic waves producing method for e.g. aircraft, involves causing thickness mode of vibrations between converter and component during activation of converter, and producing ultrasonic waves by thickness mode of vibrations
The method involves coupling an elongated ultrasonic converter (1) with a laminar component (3) i.e. bumper, of a vehicle such that a longitudinal axis of the converter is arranged perpendicular to a surface of the component, where the converter is coupled with the component at the surface. Thickness mode of vibrations (9) of the component is caused between the converter and the component during activation of the converter, and ultrasonic waves are produced by the thickness mode of vibrations. The component is made of metal, fiber reinforced plastic or glass. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for receiving ultrasonic waves (2) a ultrasonic wave receiving device comprising a ultrasonic converter with a longitudinal axis arranged perpendicular to a surface of a component.
