A method for treating the motor-and-evacuation function of the gastrointestinal tract in the syndrome of the irritated bowel with diarrhea provides for assaying the hydrogen in the expired air following the administration of test solution. Four days before, the patient discontinues the administration of antibacterial and laxative drugs. One day before the assay, the meals rich in cellulose fibers are excluded. The lactulose breathing assay is performed on an empty stomach.
