PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present in an understandable way for a user which items are now selected and which items are not selected (namely, a combination of items under selection) when the user is made to select a plurality of items out of a large quantity of selection items.;SOLUTION: In a user interface, the items available as retrieval conditions are listed on a screen and any arbitrary item can be added to or deleted from the retrieval conditions by switching checks in a check box. Control is made so that only the items under selection can be collectively displayed on the items other than the items under selection. Namely, upon detecting the selection of any item, a selection item display device re-calculates the order of respective items so that the order of the items under selection can be made higher on the screen (it can be said that the items under selection can be preferentially displayed). The present invention is not necessarily applied to document retrieval, but is widely applied to the user interface for selecting the required items only from the large quantity of items.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
