The method involves adjusting hydrocarbon flow according to a characteristic parameter of exhaust gas, where the parameter is instantaneous oxygen concentration or instantaneous richness of exhaust gas. An introduction of hydrocarbons into an exhaust line comprising a catalyst (14) i.e. diesel oxidation catalyst, is cut when the instantaneous oxygen concentration is lower than the minimal concentration of oxygen or when the instantaneous richness is higher or equal to a maximum threshold of richness of the exhaust gas.
