Terahertz volume component comprises a terahertz lens or waveguide made from a plastic material consisting of a compound comprising a base material and a filler having an average grain size of less than 60 mu m. The filler is present in an amount such that the real part of the refractive index of the compound is more than 2 for an electromagnetic wave of 1 THz. An independent claim is also included for a method for the production of a terahertz volume component.
