Installation of seawater desalination by multi-effect distillation (MED) with steam thermocompression (TVC), designed to be coupled to a thermal power plant, comprising (A) a series of distillation cells (effects A, B, C, D, E), each cell being constituted by - a closed enclosure that includes at least one medium (1) designed to flow seawater in thin film over a heat exchanger (2) heated by steam to a sufficient temperature to vaporize a part of the seawater flowing in thin film on the heat exchanger, - a means (3) designed to carry the water vapor thus formed to the heat exchanger (2 ') of the following effect, - a medium ( 4) for the evacuation of liquid water formed by condensation of water vapor in the heat exchanger, - a means of suction of non-condensable gases (O2, N2, CO2), - a means (5) of evacuation of the brine that remains after evaporation of a part of the sea water, each effect being adapted to operate at a temperature and pressure lower than the preceding effect, and (B) a thermocompression means (6) that allows compressing a part of the water vapor VA emitted by one or more of the effects (B to E) and reinject it in the first effect (A), characterized in that the thermocompression medium (6) is designed so that it can function, alternatively, at two different VM motor vapor pressures, and because the thermocompression medium is constituted: either by at least two different ejectors (6a, 6b) designed so that they can operate at different VM engine steam pressures and mounted in parallel between the first effect (A) and the effect (s) of water vapor extraction (B to E), or by a removable injection nozzle ejector compressor capable of being replaced by another nozzle designed so that it can operate at a different VM engine vapor pressure and.
