The device (E) has a permanent magnets arrangement (PMA) consisting of permanent magnets (PM), and an arrangement for detecting a position of an article (G) with respect to the device. A Hall switches arrangement (HSA) consists of Hall switches (HS), and is designed in such a manner that the permanent magnets arrangement and a position of the magnets arrangement influence a condition of the Hall switches with respect to the device. A laminar cover (AD) is arranged parallel to a laminar arrangement of Hall switches, and contains a sub-area (FMTF) made of ferromagnetic steel. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for detecting an article (2) a method for manufacturing an article (3) a device comprising a positioning unit for positioning an article.
