The device comprises a voltmeter unit. An actual loop current (I-S) is determined over a voltage drop at an internal measuring resistor (7). An input unit or an output unit (3) is provided at a field device (1). A regulating evaluation unit displays the actual determined loop current as an operating condition of the field device.
