The method for extracting hydrogen (8) and carbon dioxide product (13, 17) from hydrocarbon-containing element (1), comprises producing a gas flow (5) (synthesis gas) consisting of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from the element by steam reforming in a moistened reactor (reformer) and by water-gas shift reaction (R), and converting the synthesis gas into the hydrogen- and carbon dioxide product and a gas fraction having impure product (H-residual gas). The H-residual gas (15) is condensed and led back into the process for material usage in an upstream manner. The method for extracting hydrogen (8) and carbon dioxide product (13, 17) from hydrocarbon-containing element (1), comprises producing a gas flow (5) (synthesis gas) consisting of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from the element by steam reforming in a moistened reactor (reformer) and by water-gas shift reaction (R), and converting the synthesis gas into the hydrogen- and carbon dioxide product and a gas fraction having impure product (H-residual gas). The H-residual gas (15) is condensed and led back into the process for material usage in an upstream manner or led back upstream or downstream to the water gas-shift reaction. The hydrogen product is separated from the synthesis gas by a pressure swing adsorption, where carbon dioxide-rich, hydrogen containing residual gas (C-residual gas) is produced. A part of the C-residual gas is subjected to a further pressure swing adsorption, with which a gas flow consisting of carbon dioxide and the H-residual gas is produced. The gas flow consisting of carbon dioxide resulting in the conversion of the synthesis gas is cleaned by temperature swing adsorption of unwanted materials to carbon dioxide-product purity, where the H-residual gas is introduced as regeneration gas into the process before recycling. An independent claim is included for a device for the extraction of hydrogen and carbon dioxide product from hydrocarbon-containing element.
