A method and an apparatus of managing an occupation status of an object commonly used by a plurality of people, usable for seat management of a library are provided to manage seats in a library efficiently by checking over the occupied state of a commonly shared object. An ID obtaining unit obtains a card ID from a card. When the card Id is valid, a transmitter an object occupation state table including the state information of objects commonly shared by plural users. A setup unit receives an object ID corresponding to an object which is not occupied, and sets up the occupation state of the object corresponding to the received object ID. A Server(120) manages the occupation sate of the seats in a library.
