Provided is an equipment state detecting apparatus which is hardly troubled by learning the combination of the running states of all equipments existing in the home and which is hardly estimated erroneously even when an unknown equipment runs. The equipment state detecting apparatus comprises a measuring means (110) for measuring the physical quantities of the environment in which the equipment is placed, a feature quantity calculating means (120) for calculating the feature quantity of the measured value measured by the measuring means (110), a storage means (140) for storing the feature quantity for each equipment and a corresponding equipment state in advance as a reference equipment entry dictionary (200), and an equipment state detecting means (130) for retrieving the feature quantity, which is stored in the reference equipment entry dictionary (200) by using the feature quantity calculated by the feature quantity calculating means (120), as a retrieval key, thereby to detect the equipment state on the basis of the equipment state corresponding to the feature quantity retrieved.
