PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll having a surface structure hardly causing adhesion of plating dross to roll surface and also easy of peeling off of the plating dross and also to provide a method of forming a film on the roll surface. ;SOLUTION: The surface of a base material composed of steel is coated with WC-Co cermet by thermal spraying. Then, the surface of the resultant WC-Co cermet sprayed coating is coated with a slurry consisting of a mixture of chromium oxide-containing aqueous solution and nitride, followed by heating and burning. By this procedure, fine pores existing in the surface of the WC-Co cermet sprayed coating or near the surface layer of the coating are coated and filled with the burnt mixture.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
