The circuit has comparators (CA1, CA2) detecting an oscillation of blocking and lighting of a high intensity discharge lamp, respectively. A comparator (CA3) assures protecting function for detecting whether the discharge lamp is in high voltage situation or short circuit. A clock (T) assures a protection function for a zero load and non lighting lamp. A pulse width modulation control (P) controls an output power of a lamp and assures the protective function for an abnormal situation, where the control assures a safety starting function for the lamp.
