Parking space detecting device for use in parking assistance system, has parking space detecting unit detecting number of dividing line segments in direction of guide line to detect guide line and dividing line segment as parking space
The device has a camera (112) provided on a vehicle for photographing a parking area, and a user interface unit (116) receiving an input of a start point as a desired parking position in the parking area by a driver. A parking space detecting unit (114) receives input images from the camera and the start point from the user interface unit. The detecting unit detects a number of dividing line segments in a direction of a guide line to detect the guide line and the dividing line segment as the parking space. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for detecting a parking space based on a bird-perspective view (2) a parking assistance system for assisting a driver during parking of vehicles by detecting a parking space based on a bird-perspective view.
