The method involves producing a sample body from a PVC material. A sinusoidal mechanical load is applied on the sample body under change of temperature of the sample body. A sinusoidal load effect at the sample body is measured. A dissipation factor is determined in dependence of the change of temperature, where a phase angle corresponds to a phase shift between the sinusoidal load signal and the load effect signal resulting at the sample body. A maximum value of the dissipation factor is determined for characterization of mechanical characteristics of the PVC material.
