A portable terminal for managing personal relationships using relational link setup and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to easily recognize a specific person through peripheral persons by establishing a relational link to show with whom the specific person is associated and displaying brief information about relational persons together in case of searching for the specific person. If a user inputs information about a specific person through an input interface(S101), a relational link setup application establishes a relational link between the specific person and associated persons, and stores the inputted information(S102). If the user makes a request to search for the specific person(S103), the relational link setup application searches for detailed information about the specific person and displays it on the screen(S104). Then the relational link setup application searches for information about relational persons connected through the relational link with the specific person(S105). The relational link setup application extracts brief information for the relational persons and displays it(S106).
