The self-locking panic lock for doors has a spring-loaded, double-armed catch (4), a slide (8) which can move up and down in the lock casing and a latch (3). The latch cooperates with the slide and a spring-loaded locking component (5) fixes it in position when the latch is pushed in. A rotating catch (9) is connected to the slide and two locking cylinders (18, 19) operate it. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the lock.
