SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a thermodynamically effective motor vehicle drive apparatus comprising a tank (10) with liquefied air, oxygen or nitrogen, which is connected via a pipe (15) to an injection device (55, 330, 430, 530) on the cylinder head of a positive displacement piston an engine comprising at least an exhaust valve (56, 320, 420) and optionally a fuel injection nozzle (340) and an igniter (325), or a suction valve (460) and a fuel injection nozzle (440). The principle is that a heat exchanger (40) is arranged between the thermally insulated tank (10) and the device (55, 330, 430, 530) to convert the liquid gas phase into a gas phase. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for increasing the thermodynamic efficiency of reciprocating internal combustion engines utilizing said thermodynamically effective device, wherein liquefied air, oxygen or nitrogen at a temperature close to -200.degree.C is converted into a gas phase in a heat exchanger (40) with a gas pressure of 10 to 100 MPa, which is injected by the device (330) of the cylinder (310) above the piston (315) at the top dead center in the fuel injection nozzle (340) and after ignition of the fuel mixture by the spark plug (325) the fuel mixture expands and presses the piston (315) to the bottom dead center to open the exhaust valve (320) through which the flue gas is discharged from the cylinder (310) and when the top dead center is reached, the exhaust valve (320) is closed while injecting pressurized gas through the injector the fuel injector (340) into the cylinder (310).
