PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydrogenated block copolymer imparted with a polar functional group by imparting the polar functional group to the hydrogenated material of an aromatic vinyl compound-based block copolymer having a specific structural unit, and the hydrogenated block copolymer imparted with the polar functional group.;SOLUTION: This method for producing the hydrogenated block copolymer imparted with the polar functional group is provided by hydrogenating the aromatic vinyl compound-based block copolymer having ≥1 polymer block A consisting mainly of an aromatic vinyl compound containing a methylstyrene-derived structural unit (a) obtained by bonding at least one methyl group with a benzene ring, and ≥1 polymer block B consisting mainly of a conjugated diene compound in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to obtain a hydrogenated block copolymer, effecting an organo-alkali metal compound on the hydrogenated block copolymer in the presence of a base to form an anion by drawing out a hydrogen atom of methyl group on an aromatic ring and then reacting a polar functional group-imparting agent on the anionized hydrogenated block copolymer.
