PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enrichment culture method comprising the simultaneous culture of an ammonia-oxidizing bacterium community and a denitrifying bacterium community, by which both the ammonia-oxidizing bacterium community and the denitrifying bacterium community having quite different energy acquisition systems, respectively, can simultaneously be obtained by a series of enrichment culture operations using an ocean bottom mud which is a site sample.;SOLUTION: This method for the enrichment culture of the ammonia-oxidizing bacterium community and the denitrifying bacterium community comprises inoculating a collected ocean bottom mud into an inorganic salt culture medium (A) for ammonia-oxidizing bacteria, starting a shaking culture in a dark condition at the ordinary temperature, repeating the culture operation until the activities of the bacteria become a stable condition, inoculating the obtained ammonia-oxidizing bacterium culture liquid into an inorganic salt culture medium (B) containing fine metal ingredients in higher concentrations than those of the inorganic salt culture medium (A), culturing or acclimatizing the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and the denitrifying bacteria capable of symbiosing with the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria, and then repeating the culture acclimatization operation to obtain a culture/acclimatization liquid containing the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and the denitrifying bacteria.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
