The injector has an injection valve unit (11) with a nozzle needle (13), which acts on a nozzle needle sealing seat (14). A piezoelectric actuator (20) acts on a pressure transmission device (21) that has an actuator-sided coupling plunger (22), a nozzle needle-sided coupling plunger (23) and two coupler chambers (24, 25). The plunger (23) is guided by the plunger (22) that includes a pressure surface. The chamber (24) is hydraulically connected with a nozzle needle pressure chamber (16) by a connection channel (131) that includes a throttle (132) guided by the plunger (23). An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an injection valve unit.
