Fuel system for internal combustion (IC) engine e.g. diesel engine capable of running on vegetable oil, uses vegetable oil cycle to circulate vegetable oil into fuel injection pump as diesel cycle stops
When the diesel cycle of the engine is stopped, a vegetable oil cycle is opened. Vegetable oil is supplied from a corresponding tank (B) to a fuel injection pump (10), through heating the oil upon passing through a water-cooled heat exchanger (6) and/or a waste gas heat exchanger (4). The surplus oil is circulated from the pump to a by-pass line. Some of the surplus oil is directly supplied back into the tank via return pipe (16) with a throttle valve (17), or is passed through a cooler (15), or is recirculated back into the pump by the by-pass line to preheat the oil supply.
