A medical mobile/cell phone is for specific use by patients and clinical trials participants. It has important specific and restricted functionality beyond current cell phones in use. It allows a patient (or study participant) the ability to SMS text messages their care giver (or research coordinator), hereafter called the 'host', a specific set of clinical monitoring data, and can receive calls from the host's standard mobile phone, but cannot be used for making personal calls. The device is compact and easy to use regardless of literacy or language of the user. It has a limited set of preprogrammed SMS text messages triggered by buttons with easily recognizable symbols.
