The method involves determining a measurement model expressing attenuation and phase shift of a microwave beam as a function of volume fractions and permittivities of various phases of a fluid. The volume fractions of the phases are determined by minimizing a distance between two points whose coordinates correspond respectively to measured attenuation and phase shift pair and to attenuation and phase shift pair determined by the model.
