The method involves positioning a laser beam (3) within a stator to constitute a longitudinal reference axis. Lateral spacings between the laser beam (3) and inner borders of the stator forming diaphragm are measured by emitting another laser beam (5) in an elongated direction of the laser beam (3) and by measuring range of the beam (5) up to the inner borders of the stator. An independent claim is also included for a rotor centering measuring device.
