Determination of the arc voltage in welding between a welding electrode and workpiece in using a welding current source (1) connected to the primary winding of a welding transfomer (4) and a welding circuit on its secondary side, a rectifier (6) and impedance (7) for smoothing the welding current. The arc voltage is measured directly from the output side of the rectifier using an equation including a term for the arc voltage and transformer secondary voltage.
