The arc potential between welding electrode and piece being welded is regulated to control weld quality. The current (I) from the arc generator is measured and used to calculate voltage loss arising from resistance (R) and inductance (L) in the connecting circuit. This loss is subtracted from potential (Upost(t)) delivered by the current generator to determine actual arc voltage (Uarc(t)).
