The flow meter has a differential pressure device (1) placed within a conduit and including two wall pressure taps (A, B). A pressure difference calculation unit (2) connected to the taps calculates a difference between two static pressures. An electronic calculator (3) calculates fluid flow by resolving a formula relating an instantaneous fluid flow with the pressure difference and taking into account a fluid flow direction. The formula specifies that a sum of rate of change of desired volume flow rate with respect to time and a function depending on the geometry of the differential pressure device, the fluid and the flow, is equal to a product of a coefficient which is function of geometry of the flow meter and the instantaneous pressure difference. The pressure difference in the formula is positive or negative based on variation of the rate of fluid flow in the conduit and/or the direction of the fluid flow. An independent claim is also included for a method to measure flow of a fluid having steady or unsteady flow in a conduit.
