The method involves measuring ratio of air/fuel mixture at an outlet of a diesel engine. The measured ratio is compared with a desired ratio to deduce an error. A corrector produces a control signal for controlling the opening of an intake valve and/or a control signal for controlling the opening of a recirculation valve, based on the deduced error.
