Using apoptosis-regulating agent for treating disease, e.g. neurodegeneration or autoimmune diseases, acts by modifying interaction of mitochondrial potassium channels with apoptosis inducers
Use of an apoptosis-regulating substance (ARS) that modifies interaction of mitochondrial potassium channels (MK) with apoptosis-inducing and/or stimulating substances (AIS) to prepare a composition for treating or preventing diseases that involve excessive apoptosis. Use of at least one apoptosis-regulating substance (ARS) to prepare a composition for prevention and/or treatment of human or animal diseases which involve excessive apoptosis and/or are associated with appearance of apoptosis The new feature is that ARS modifies, especially inhibits, at least partly, interaction between a mitochondrial potassium channel (MK) and an apoptosis-stimulating and/or -inducing substance (AIS). An independent claim is also included for a method for discovery or identification of ARS. ACTIVITY : Nootropic; Neuroprotective; Antiparkinsonian; Cardiant; Vasotropic; Immunosuppressive; Antirheumatic; Hepatotropic; Antiapoptotic. No details of tests for these activities are given. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Inhibits interaction between MK and natural proapoptotic compounds.
