PURPOSE: A nonlinear equalizer is provided to show nonlinear channels as transition pulses selected according to patterns of transition absolute values of a future bit and a past bit, thereby effectively expressing a nonlinear distortion of a digital magnetic storage channel caused by interactions with adjacent data. CONSTITUTION: A linear filter(200) processes a received input value. A pattern dependent filter(210) has different tap values according to past and future data patterns, and filters pre-detected data. A detector(220) subtracts an output value of the pattern dependent filter(210) from an output value of the linear filter(200) to obtain an error value, and obtains error values of an equation 1 for all combinations of current and future data which are not detected yet. The detector(220) obtains one of the error values, which generates a minimum error square value, and determines the selected one as final output data.
