PURPOSE: An astronomical observation method using a portable terminal is provided to easily perform astronomical observation by confirming constellation information of an acquired image and overlaying information and pictures according to confirmed constellation information to a real image. CONSTITUTION: An image acquiring unit acquires an image of a heavenly body through a camera of a portable terminal. A high luminance image extracting unit extracts a high intensity portion from the acquired image. A pattern matching unit compares the extracted pattern with a previously stored constellation pattern. If the same constellation exists, an image overlay unit overlays information of the corresponding constellation to the acquired image of the heavenly body and outputs the overlaid image.
