An energy damping apparatus is provided for a pressurized liquid transport system for transporting pressurized liquids. The energy attenuator comprises a liquid carrying means (23) that includes three series of chambers (39,40; 58; 59; 64; 55, 56) and one chamber (58) of those chambers No tubes are provided in 55,56. A first tube (61) is disposed in a chamber of one of the chambers, and one end is connected in fluid communication with the inlet or outlet end of the chamber. The other free end of the first tube (61) is separated from the outlet end or entrance end of the chamber by an open gap. One hole is formed in the free end of the first tube or the peripheral wall to set fluid communication between the first tube (61) and the chamber. A second tube (62) may be disposed in another chamber.
