PURPOSE: Provided are a liquid crystal medium having a specific dispersity of double refraction for the improvement of color effect, a method for setting dispersity thereof and an electro-optical display containing the same. CONSTITUTION: The nematic liquid crystal medium comprises (a) a component A comprised of a compound having low double refraction(Δn) in the range of 0.080 or less, (b) optionally, a component B comprised of a compound having middle double refraction ranging from 0.081 to 0.149, and (c) a component C having high double refraction in the range of 0.150 or more. The dispersity of such nematic liquid crystal medium is set by selecting individual compounds so that relative dispersity(σΔn/Δn_mix) of double refraction(Δni) thereof is 0.50 or more.
