PURPOSE: A ship design method is provided to minimize ship resistance and reduce fuel consumption with hydrodynamics and mathematical linear equation. CONSTITUTION: A ship designing method is composed of a step making a mathematical linear equation including an unknown coefficient of a water line and side cross section. A whole resistance equation of the ship is obtained by the mathematical linear equation. A Lagrange equation is obtained with the unknown coefficient and Lagrange constant(lambda and mu) using the whole resistance equation and boundary condition. The Lagrange equation is part differentiated by the unknown coefficient and the Lagrange constant. A simultaneous equation is obtained by the part differentiation. Therefore, the optimum ship design minimizing resistance is obtained.
