PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and its method for recognizing a face by dividing a face picture into face elements.;SOLUTION: This face recognizing device includes an element dividing part for dividing an input face picture into a plurality of face element pictures, a face descriptor forming part for forming a face descriptor being a proper vector for expressing the respective face element pictures by using a conversion matrix corresponding to the respective face elements, a registering face descriptor DB for storing the registering face descriptor and an authenticating part for authenticating an input face picture by respectively imparting a prescribed load value corresponding to the face elements to a comparing result of the respective face elements by comparing the face descriptor of the input face picture inputted from the face descriptor forming part with a registered face descriptor, and the device is used for a solving means.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
