PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the recognition result during speech with a small throughput and to stably obtain the optimum solution.;SOLUTION: A timing estimation section 13 estimates a frame with high possibility of the existence of the word boundary and outputs an execution instruction to a backward exploring section 14 to explore backward from the estimated frame as the start frame. This means the backward exploration can be carried out with the optimum timing with the right word boundary as the initial node and the optimum solution can be stably obtained. The recognition result can be determined in the middle of the speech. The backward exploring section 14 merges the n-best word trains obtained by the exploration so that in later backward exploration, only the acoustic scores and language scores near the word boundary between the n-best word trains and word candidates are calculated. A limiting part 17 allows a forward exploring section 12 to erase active sound nodes relating to word trains except for the outputted word trains so as to limit the forward exploration space.
