Producing a transgenic plant or plant cell expressing a transgene under control of native transcription and translation elements already present in the genome is useful to give stable expression of transgenes
Producing a transgenic plant or plant cell which expresses a desired characteristic under the control of elements in the plant core DNA, by using a vector in which the coding sequence is free of upstream transcriptional and translation elements, is new. Producing a transgenic plant or plant cell expressing a desired characteristic whose transcription and translation are under the control of elements in the plant DNA by introducing into the host genome a vector comprising the desired coding sequence free of (a) an upstream transcription initiation element functional in the host cell, functionally linked to the coding sequence and necessary for transcription of the coding sequence, and (b) an upstream translation element functional in the host cell and functionally linked to the coding sequence, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) RNA obtained using the method; (2) plant cells or plants and their descendents obtained using the method; and (3) use of the above plants or plant cells for genetic engineering, particularly targeted transformation.
