According to the method, a gearbox parameter is measured and transferred to a control unit. The control unit uses the measured value to determine the temperature. During a gear change the duration between an interruption to the gearbox rotational velocity and a following increase in velocity is measured. The difference in velocity and the duration of the change are temperature dependent, so the gearbox temperature can be determined. Independent claims are also included for: (1) A corresponding control device; (2) A computer program product; (3) A storage device; (4) Transmission with an automatic gearbox.
