PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new variant uricase gene having an amino acid sequence produced by varying amino acids at a specific site in the amino acid sequence of a wild type uricase having a specific amino acid sequence, and coding for the stabilized variant uricase useful in a clinical diagnosis field, etc. ;SOLUTION: This new gene codes for a physically and chemically stable variant uricase comprising a polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence produced by varying amino acids at the 165 to 170 sites among a wild type uricase amino acid sequence of the formula. The variant uricase is extremely useful in a clinical diagnosis field.
