A method for adjusting at least one amplifier in a multi-channel cable TV network in which the optimal adjustment of each amplifier corresponds to a given calculated linear specific target function (C) of the signal level value in all channels, involves the steps of measuring the actual signal level values in all channels during a given adjustment of an amplifier (V1-V12) , and then using the least squares method the smallest square of those linear measured functions (B) at which the sum of the squares of the spacings of all the signal level values is minimal is formed from the measured signal level values. The target function (C) and the measured function (B) are represented in a common system of reference. By using one-time or repeated resetting or readjusting of one or both parameters, new altered functions (B') are formed until an extensive or complete approximation of a last formed measured function (B'') to the specific target function (C) is reached.
