Water collecting chambers in hilly regions are tunneled into rock to form chamber with sluiced wall stoppings both ends and runoff channel off chamber gradient center.
The cistern-action collection chambers are tunneled through the rock and stopped off each end by sluiced (5) walls (6) and have at deepest tunnel point a runoff channel (2) at a gradient (3) falling away towards the end sluices (5). The gradient can start at any point of the tunnel chamber and the angle of the channel relative the chamber is selected to give the required rate of flow. The walls (6) are set into the rock and with their sluices serve to control the stored water runoff. The sluices can be operated together to give set volumes of water in each case at specified times as per program. The stored water is piped to consumers.
