PURPOSE: Provided are biscarboxyethylgermanium sesquioxide-transition metal complexes and their derivatives which have less toxicity but excellent anticancer effects on a human body. And a new antitumor agent comprising them as an effective ingredient is also provided. CONSTITUTION: Biscarboxyethylgermanium sesquioxide-transition metal complex is represented by the formula(1), in which R is hydrogen atom or -NH-R1, wherein R1 is selected from radicals described in the description; and M is divalent transition metal selected from Zn, Hg, Cd, Ni, Mn, Cu and Fe, or monovalent transition metal, Ag, when M is Ag, a complex is represented by the formula(1a).
