transgenic animal overexpressing the gene carboxykinase p- enolpyruvate for use in the study of diabetes mellitus and the development of therapeutic approaches to the disease. It refers to a minigene which utilizes a portion of the gene and the cDNA (complementary DNA) of PEPCK (P- enolpyruvate carboxykinase) gene or modified by a label PEPCK directed by a promoter or fusion of promoters. It also relates to an expression vector that can express PEPCK in any cell type and a transgenic nonhuman animal expressing a minigene of PEPCK for use in the study of diabetes mellitus and in the development of therapeutic disease approximations. It also refers to a chromosome of the nonhuman transgenic animals containing the aforementioned chimeric gene and said even minigene or modified PEPCK gene for use in studies of the pathophysiological causes of diabetes mellitus.
